  • On my 13th drop(1996) during a tactical advanced parachute course (belgian brigade paracommando) the windspeed increased suddenly, almost two times the limit, and it snowed very hard (3 à 4 inches within the time we left to the airport and the drop). From 40 or so men only 6 were not injured in one way or the other. I landed so hard I broke my tailbone and in essence I broke my ass. Because I couldn't stand up, the wind filled my canopy and started to drag me across the field and dragged me afr More..

  • OUCH!

I don't understand what went wrong? He clearly knew something was up because he says "this is gonna suck" ages before he hit the ground. Anyone know what he was referring to? How did he know?

    • @o0Tao0o he had a good idea he was heading for that track so was trying to steer away but it looks like he just didnt assume the position and probably put his arms out

    • @o0Tao0o Thanks for the replies. I think i'll combine them all into...

He knew he was off target
he knew he was too fast (perhaps the turn he made sped him up?)
      He tried to reduce weight.
      He failed... Crunchtime!

      :D

  • I was not a Paratrooper (I was a marine) but I did observe some drops. They had the jumpers collect up their chutes and bag them, and then ru to the assembly area, and observed them to see if they were injured.
This kinda thing happens occasionally, considering the massive number of jumps the airborne units do in training and for fun. I recall that on Saturdays the paratroopers could do hollywood jumps if they wanted, to up the number they had and get the star on their wings. Lots of the guys l More..

  • Yeah, it's never good when the rest of your chalk is still a couple hundred feet above you. Airborne, brother! Enjoy being on profile for the next six months.
