More bad news for Obama
As six Wisconsin GOP state senators faced an historic recall election yesterday, voters turned out in large numbers to let their voices be heard. Republicans beat back four of the Democrat challengers — maintaining control of the state House and Senate, as well as the governor’s office.
The recall elections, orchestrated by leftist labor leaders and their Democrat cohorts, followed Gov. Scott Walker’s move to bring sanity to the out-of-control demands of the public employees and teacher’s unions. In a stunning mid-February display of cowardice, Democrat senators fled the state in order to block legislation to bring the state’s unsustainable budget under control.
Two Democrat incumbents face recalls next week. Even if they retain those seats, the GOP will keep control of the state Senate.
Yesterday’s election marks a major victory for GOP Gov. Scott Walker and a crushing defeat for Democrats and organized labor, which poured millions of dollars and countless volunteer hours into the recall effort.
This election is not good news for Barack Obama in a state he easily won in 2008 with 56.2 percent of the vote.
The Milwaukee Wisconsin Journal Sentinel runs an editorial this morning which begrudgingly acknowledges that the “Sky isn’t falling” and credits Gov. Walker’s efforts to balance the state budget.
