Sad day for the F-14. I was an Air Intercept Controller in the Navy for 17 years and controlled that very aircraft many many times on deployment in the Mediterranean and the Persian Gulf.

I hated working on F-14's, but I was sad to see them go, they were a tough looking aircraft.

I used to like getting into the afterburner blast area when they launched.
Bad ass.

The end of a long, proud line of Grumman Navy birds.
[last introduced, not flown, that is]

This was a fun video to watch.
I flew the F-14 for eight years, and loved the entire experience.

It's about time, really. That plane was already 12 yrs old when Top Gun came out in 1986, 26 years ago!

@Neil Griffith
Just how old do you think the C-130, EA-6B and E2C programs are. Prowlers have been around much longer than Tomcats.
Hornets and Super Hornets are over priced flying junk heaps that have little range and even less loiter time.

@dw573
Not to mention the M2 machine gun as well as the B52 bomber will both be over 100 years old before they are finally retired from service!

I guess it's only fitting to film it on a camera of similar vintage.
