Hate Crime: Man Arrested for Attack on Muslim Woman (UK)

Man arrested for attack on Muslim woman

May 11 2012 by Hannah Jennings Parry, Solihull News

A SHIRLEY man has been summoned to appear at Solihull Magistrates Court after he allegedly ripped a veil from a Muslim woman’s face in Touchwood. (Touchwood Shopping Center/Centre)

Police reported that Ian Brazier, 26, had grabbed the victim, also 26, by her head and removed her face covering as she walked past the Disney store, on March 3.

It’s alleged that he then threw the veil to the floor and left the shopping centre.

A Solihull Police spokesman said the woman had not been physically harmed but was left severely shaken by the incident.

Officers tracked down Brazier following a CCTV image appeal.

He will now appear at Solihull Magistrates on June 13.

Chief Inspector Kevin Doyle, from Solihull Police Station, said previously: “Reports of crimes like this are exceptionally rare both in Solihull and the wider West Midlands.

“We are treating this incident as a hate crime as we believe the woman was deliberately targeted because of her faith symbolised by her attire.”

Why Muslim Women *Should* Wear Hijab

The proof that Muslim women should cover themselves is very clear in the Holy Qur'an. As such, the above act is clearly defined as a hate crime.

Surah An Noor/The Light (Chapter 24, Al Qur'an/The Recitation)

31)

And say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze and guard their modesty; that they should not display their beauty and ornaments except what (must ordinarily) appear thereof; that they should draw their veils over their bosoms and not display their beauty except to their husbands, their fathers, their husband´s fathers, their sons, their husbands´ sons, their brothers or their brothers´ sons, or their sisters´ sons, or their women, or the slaves whom their right hands possess, or male servants free of physical needs, or small children who have no sense of the shame of sex; and that they should not strike their feet in order to draw attention to their hidden ornaments. And O ye Believers! turn ye all together towards Allah, that ye may attain Bliss.

Surah Al Ahzaab/The Clans (Chapter 33, Al Qur'an/The Recitation)

O Prophet! Tell thy wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should cast their outer garments over their persons (when abroad): that is most convenient, that they should be known (as such) and not molested. And Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

More Proof?

Muslims attain a great wealth of knowledge and information that they can study and use to help them interpret their religion from the Hadith.

A ḥadīth (Arabic: حديث‎, /ˈhædɪθ/[1] or /hɑːˈdiːθ/[2]) (plural: hadith, hadiths, or aḥādīth) is a saying or an act or tacit approval or criticism ascribed either validly or invalidly to the Islamic prophet Muhammad.

Obviously, these hadiths can be used to describe the effects of the revelation from God on the followers of the final messenger of God. In many multiples of Hadiths (relating to speech and acts), it is very clear that women are at the very least wearing head coverings and as such; this is how the generation of people who followed the prophet interpretted the revelation and how the prophet advised them in regard to the relevation.
