Another video (and version) of the weekend confrontation between Palestinians, Settlers

A video distributed by B'Tselem shows a clash between Palestinians and settlers near Nablus on Saturday which ended with the use of rubber bullets.
A Palestinian man, Fathi Asira, 24, was injured and taken to the Rafidia hospital. Doctors say his condition is stable.

The video documents a group of Palestinians hurling stones at residents of the settlement of Yitzhar, some of whom were carrying rifles. One of the settlers was wearing an Israel Police hat.

Shortly thereafter, a Palestinian carrying a stone in his hand approached two settlers, who in response fired in his direction. The camera is then seen changing angles, leaving the Palestinian's collapse to the ground unrecorded. At this stage, the settlers started withdrawing and the victim was taken away by his friends.

The clash erupted at around 4:30 pm in the village of Asira al-Kabaliya. An IDF force was dispatched to the site and witnessed the exchange but did not intervene.

Yitzhar spokesman Avraham Binyamin said that the settlement's emergency squad and fire extinguishing team had been called to put out several fires started by Arabs from the village. "This is the third Saturday in a row that Arabs start fires in the purpose of harming Yitzhar's western parts," he said. "The team was attacked by a mob of hundreds of rioters who hurled stones at them."

B'Tselem has demanded that Shai District Police indict the settlers who were captured using weapons.

In Yitzhar, settlers are claiming that "the video faithfully documents the barrage of stones taken by the emergency squad members who were defending the firefighters with their bodies, two of which were hurt by stones earlier. The use of weapons by IDF forces or the squad members was made in a life threatening situation. Security forces will investigate the event."

In the video you can clearly see that the IDF soldiers didn't intervine, not only regarding the settlers, but also regarding the Palestinians- you can see them standing in between the Palestinians who hurl stones and do nothing to them. Seems they prefered to keep low profile, otherwise they might have created much more tensions (and violence) between the sides.

In the previous video (the one I just updated) it is clear the settlers are the one putting out the fire (in the back ground), while 2 other guys secure them with arms- Once the Palestinians get too close and hurl stones, the security men open fire (rubber bullets), NOT BEFORE.

You can see the settlers are the one carry equipment to put out the fire...

The only thing is that Yitzhar is not 'Israel'- for regular Israelis 'Israel' is Tel Aviv, Haifa, Kibutz,The sea,High Teck, soccer (even if it's louzy),trips, social justice and so on.

Regular Israelis don't visit places like Yitzhar, and almost never meet Settlers like those in the video above.

  • There is no such thing and never has been a nation called "Palestine". Nor is there such a thing as a palestinian people, culture, currency, language, government, military.... They are all arabs and they are being used as pawns by their original nations in a propaganda war against Israel; even Arafat was an Egyptian. All of so called "palestine" belongs to Israel period and there has never been an arab nation there. The double standard that Israel is held to is ridiculous. Th More..

Baruch Goldstein was a terrorist, and except of the very radicals, he was outcasted by the society in Israel right after he did what he did.

  • All what I brought and wrote in here does not change the fact that I think settlments like Yitzhar must not be where they are now.

But trying to put every time all the blame on the Jewish settlers alone is also not acceptable and comes from a very specific agenda- Seems that on the ground BOTH sides are provoking each other, and in part of the cases BOTH of them even enjoy all the fuzz- watch at the Palestinians singing in the end of this video: The feeling is that they see it as some kind of a More..

    Posted May-21-2012 By

    • @aydeo Most certainly they enjoy provoking each other...

But I applaud you for highlighting the underlying cause for this problem, which is the fact that the settlement is there in the first place

I think with these vids we never know what's really going on, the underlying factors are what really matter

    • @SpeckFettGulag Ha ha, now that is rich from you.
I'm sorry matey, but you're way off centre in these discussions

The commentary between Aydeo and I above isn't a fitting place for you to poke your head till you can attempt to look at things more fairly.

I'm going to look forward to seeing less Taqqiya/hasbara or whatever you want to call it from you from now on...

  • Another thing very interesting- The fact the IDF soldiers simply stands next to the Palestinians throwing stones, and do nothing to them, like they are friends or something... LOL,Never seen it before!!

Could it be that the IDF turns itself into UN mode when it comes to Palestinians vs. Settlers....?

    Posted May-21-2012 By

    • @aydeo That may well be the case, and if its true its a positive development.

Interestingly the village leaders are quoted as asking the Military authorities to look into the incident implying they have some (even if its very slim) hope in a bit of justice. (although I read today that 90% of charges pressed against settlers end in no indictment)
