@QQ88 Since 1945 they have followed the treaty and haven't been telling everyone that they own all of the South China Sea.
They were GIVEN the islands by CHINA in 1895 the Potsdam treaty of 1945 declares all lands (as mentioned in 1943 Cairo declaration) stolen from 1914 and on are returned.. since they weren't stolen, but given for peace and that was done in 1895 the Islands belong to Japan. Hell Taiwan also has a claim to them, but it didn't send Military vessels to the area.
