Srinagar: Come June 05 and tourists across the world will have another reason to visit this beautiful city as one of the largest shopping complex will open its doors to the public on June 05.
The state government of Jammu and Kashmir has finalised the date for the inauguration of The Sangarmal Shopping complex.
Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir Omar Abdullah will inaugurate the prestigious Sangarmal Shopping Complex in the summer capital here on June 5.
WHILE shopping malls by private firms are coming up haphazardly in many peripheral areas of Srinagar, the Srinagar Development Authority (SDA) has taken a lead by construct a unique shopping complex in the heart of this capital city. This unique Sangarmal Shopping Complex, spread over an area of 64 kanal, is being constructed by the government agency, SDA. It is coming up at the Maulana Azad Link road facing the sprawling playgrounds of the century-old Sri Pratap College. The construction of the mall was started in 2004. Now it is completed.
According Agence India Press, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah will inaugurate the prestigious Sangarmal Shopping Complex in the summer capital here on June 5.
This was decided at a high-level meeting chaired by Deputy Chief Minister Tara Chand, Minister of State for H&UDD Nasir Aslam Wani, Commissioner/Secretary, H&UDD, Suresh Kumar and Vice-Chairman, Srinagar Development Authority, Kifayat Rizvi.
Later, Nasir Aslam visited Sangarmal Complex and reviewed arrangements being made for the inauguration of the complex. He was accompanied by VC, SDA. He went around various sections and issued on-the-spot instructions.
The Complex has 62 shops, a fully-equipped craft bazaar, corporate offices, restaurant, food courts and kiosks. Besides, parking for 350 vehicles, the Complex has escalator and lift facility, four dancing fountains and 5.50 lakh litre capacity water-tanks.
Once operational, the shopping complex will boost commercial activity in the city and provide recreational facilities to families as a whole.
The city center, first of its kind in the state, offers integrated facilities of craft bazaar, shopping and office space, food court with basement as well as surface parking. About 62 shops in Block-A, 38 shops in craft bazaar, 11 kiosks in landscaping section and parking space for about 250.
The main plaza, have four escalators and a basement parking, which are unique features in the Kashmir environs. The basement, with a heating system, while the ground floor will be having food courts. The first floor will be having shops for different trades. The second and third floors will be having office space and restaurants. The complex also has space for an amusement park for children and an open-air theatre.
Before few days there were rumour that UPA chairperson and Congress President Sonia Gandhi is likely to inaugurate the Sangarmal shopping mall.
Mudasir Husain, a local businessman told Agence India Press that, this would be big achievement for state government as well as the people of Kashmir while having this kind of attraction for all age groups.
By opening of Sangarmal Shopping complex, we are not only offering customers the option of several added attractions but also better public amenities such as more parking for cars and smoother access," an SDA official told Agence India Press.
