Ingenious! Oil Filter Silencer/Suppresor for Guns
This guy be brilliant. Wish i'd thought of it! $70 for a piece of cast metal, i bet he's making tons of money off of this.
If i were him, i'd design and make some magnetic sites to put on the can so you WOULD actually be able to hit the broad side of the barn with it.
The only really quiet gun using this thing, is going to be one in a caliber that shoots subsonic ammo. Almost all handgun ammo except .22 lr is subsonic, so is shotgun ammo, Most rifles do not fire subsonic ammo - unless you already reload then you could just roll your own shells that are.
Probably a repost, so what.

Other than close range....that big can blocks the sights for targets farther away.

a good tool for a hit man, but the aiming sucks so you need to get close to your target

@OILLPOND A suppressor needs some sort of baffle inside that will slow the gases down. A piece of pipe alone wouldn't do anything to make it more quiet. The oil filter just happens to have a design that works.

The 10/22 was cool. At least with the optic and riser you could use a sight. With the pistol you're pretty much staring at the bottom of an oil filter.
So how long before we see OD green Cerakoted oil filters?

@furious1 Camouflage would be even neater.
I think you could get away with smashing one side of the can flat, as long as you didn't bust the end off doing it you might be able to see your sights.

Holy Crapola, never heard of such a thing. That is one cool gizmo and he could make a few bucks for sure. Who can tell all of us law abiding citizens the exact process for getting a suppressor permit from the ATF? I heard if you have any record at all, it's grounds for denial. I have no record at all, so I would think it would fly.

i guarantee he ain't makin a ton of money. btw, thats $70 plus $200tax to uncle sam. nobody i know, and thats many people with NFA toys, would be caught dead with an stp/fram oil filter hanging from their weapon. i mean really,, how freakin stupid is that, you can't even use the sights. so other than blasting a mag full, and giggling about the lack of report, what use is it.

@zcotty Hunting squirrels all quiet like?
It looked like he did use the sights on the ruger rifle "It's not sighted in". Easy enough to throw together some rudimentary sites using rare earth magnets to hold them on the can. You could even make them adjustable, i'm sure.

@zcotty Agreed. Suppressors are not legal in my state, and if this was the only thing that was legal, I still wouldn't buy it. I didn't spend $2000 on a rifle to stick a giant $20 car part on the end of it. This is just stupid. What's next, a pillow and some rope?
