The Australian Federation of Islamic Councils reportedly wants Muslims to be allowed to marry, divorce and conduct financial transactions under the principles of sharia law.

The organization has asked for the change in a submission to the Federal Parliament's Committee on Multicultural Affairs, the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reports.

According to the submission, all Australians would benefit if Islamic laws were adopted as mainstream legislation, a view not shared by many other contributors to the usually low-profile committee, which has received hundreds of submissions on the topic.

Ikebal Patel, president of the Australian Federation of Islamic Councils, agrees the very word sharia could invoke notions of a fierce, unjust, male-dominated legal code.

"Short of trying to really find or use another word, really I would like to suggest that what the Muslim community at least in Australia has to do is to try and explain that there's no aspect of sharia that is being tried to be introduced here," he said.

Patel thinks everyone would benefit if sharia law were utilized in a pluralistic society like Australia.

"Under the global financial crisis that we had the established market, the sharemarket sector, the products that are there suffered very badly," he said.

A young boy is quickly becoming a martyr for the thousands of Syrian rebels calling for the end of Bashar Al-Assad's brutal and oppressive Ba'ath Party government.

The youngster, identified by rebels as Hamza Al-Khatib, was helping to deliver relief supplies of food, blankets and medicine to the residents of the Syrian district of Daraa who were being prevented from leaving their home by the Syrian military.

A U.S. intelligence source tells the Law Enforcement Examiner that 13-year old was arrested and tortured to death by members of the Syrian secret police. His body four weeks turned up four-weeks later when it was left in front of his home wrapped in plastic. His parents were further shocked to discover his genitalia were sliced off.

Thousands of Syrian civilians attended his funeral in the town of Al Jeeza in the Daraa district on Wednesday.

"It may be an 'Arab Spring' for [President Barack Obama], but Hamza will never see another Summer nor will he fall in love and father a family," said former intelligence officer and police detective Sid Franes.

"Worse, he will never experience freedom," he added.

Syrian rebels are using the details of this vicious act by Syrian intelligence agents as inspiration for more youth to join the dangerous protests aimed at overthrowing.

Khatib’s photograph has been spread on Internet web sites worldwide. In the school photo, he's seen smiling. In addition, his photo was used to create posters carried by demonstrators protesting the government of Bashar Al-Assad.

A Facebook.com page was also set up as a memorial and had tens of thousands members throughout the world, while YouTube posted numerous videos of the boy, his body full of torture marks and bullet holes.

Human rights watchdog groups claim more than 30 children are among the thousands who have been killed in the Syrian protests so far.

Increasing tensions between Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad intensified when hardline clerics exerted pressure on Ahmadinejad to obey the supreme leader as the ultimate authority. Those tensions were exacerbated with the arrest of over 25 of Ahmadinejad’s associates and loyalists, along with a high-level member of his inner circle. Supporters of the supreme leader are referring to Ahmadinejad’s group as “The Deviant Movement.”

This “group” has announced that within the upcoming weeks a monumental event will turn the tide to their advantage.

Based on a report from Iran’s Ayandeh, one of the officials within “The Deviant Movement” has informed his confidants that certain sources close to the “Mahdi’s Emergence Movement” have stated that an important event will soon change the course of operations to Ahmadinejad’s favor. According to interpretations offered by Ahmadinejad’s team, a high-ranking member of the Islamic Republic will meet with a climactic incident. This in turn will build up to the announcement of the “covert emergence” of the Twelfth Imam (or Mahdi) in Medina, Saudi Arabia.

Hardliners critical of Ahmadinejad maintain that his team believes a covert emergence will commence on the 14th of Khordaad (June 5) in Medina, setting the stage for the announcement of the actual emergence in the next few years.

Certain accounts have chronicled that prior to the official emergence of the Mahdi, he will appear covertly in Medina, and during a period of one to three years he will lay the foundations for the actual announcement of his appearance.

The Deviant Movement states that: “At the time of the covert emergence, his regent (i.e., the supreme leader) will be deposed from his position.”

Previously, Ali Mottahari — a pro-supreme leader member of the Islamic Parliament — criticized Ahmadinejad:


Ahmadinejad believes that the covert emergence has, in fact, occurred. Therefore, he acts like he no longer needs the supreme leader and that he can disobey him, as he is taking his orders directly from the Mahdi himself.
