GRESHAM, Ore -- A 22-year-old Gresham man is behind bars. He is accused of killing his girlfriend's baby.Jeffrey Locker called 9-1-1 Tuesday afternoon to report that 1-year-old Brooklyn Saechao had hit her head and was unconscious. She was taken to Legacy Emanuel's trauma center where doctors diagnosed her with a severe head injury.The Gresham Police Department Major Crime Team, along with the Child Abuse Team, started investigating. Thursday afternoon Brooklyn died from her injuries."I hate it when a helpless person is mistreated," neighbor Carolyn Kolibaba said upon hearing the news. "If you could fight back it’s different, but you can’t."
"To think there’s people around that could do that to people—let alone a child," neighbor Shannon Lusby added, "I don’t get it." Detectives found out that Locker was traveling in eastern Oregon. They located him in a vehicle just south of the Oregon-Washington border sometime Friday.Locker was taken back to Gresham for questioning. Detectives say he did not cooperate. He was booked on felony murder and manslaughter charges. He should be arraigned early next week.The baby's mother, Jamie Saechao, was not home when Brooklyn was hurt.
