  • The differences are even less when protein amino acid sequence is compared. DNA simply encodes an mRNA that goes on to encode protein sequence. The interesting part is that there are redundant codes for most amino acids. That means a difference between the human and chimp genome might produce an identical protein.

    When protein sequences are compared the similarities between chimp and human are much higher (99%-100%) depending on the gene.
