Deputies: Woman hired 'hit man' to cripple ex-boyfriend

An Osceola County woman couldn't afford to have ex-boyfriend killed so she offered $500 down to get him crippled, according to the Osceola County Sheriff's Office.

The "hit man" turned out to be an undercover law enforcement officer, as happens so often in mayhem-for-hire cases.

Stephanie Jean Came met the man about noon Wednesday at the Sip-and-Dip coffee shop on 13th Street in St. Cloud and promised to pay $500 more after her ex-boyfriend was paralyzed from the neck down, according to the arrest report and interviews.

The negotiations began last week when the 21-year-old woman first got in touch with the unidentified deputy she thought was someone willing to kill for cash, according to the report and Osceola County court records.

Wednesday's arrest report is unusual because Came's home address, telephone numbers, occupation and where she works were blacked out. That only can happen under state public records law if an adult defendant has signed a waiver as a victim in a current domestic violence case.

The report states the ex-boyfriend is being held in the Osceola County Jail charged with aggravated battery, the report stated. His name was blacked out of Came's arrest report out of concern for his safety, said sheriff's spokesman Twis Lizasuain.

In a pair of secretly recorded conversations, according to the report, Came told the undercover officer she wanted the ex-boyfriend "to be in a wheelchair or paralyzed from the neck down. A payment arrangement was discussed at which time Stephanie told the agent she would make payments to pay off the deed."

At Wednesday's meeting, Came told the deputy she wanted her victim "scarred up," the report stated.

Came was charged with solicitation to commit aggravated battery and booked into the Osceola County Jail. Her bail was set at $3,500.

She was charged in November 2009 with domestic violence two years ago but the case was later dropped, records show.
