MELBOURNE teenager Ryan Miller has been lauded as a hero for jumping onto train tracks to rescue an elderly woman.

Dramatic CCTV footage of the incident shows the woman, aged in her 80s, collapse directly on to the train tracks.

A panicked crowd quickly gathers, but with only two minutes left till the train was due to arrive, no one knew what to do.

Fortunately, the quick-thinking Mr Miller leapt onto the tracks, grabbed the lady's arm and was able to haul her back onto the platform.

A fellow commuter can be seen waving frantically to the driver before the train comes to a sudden stop just five meters away from 17-year-old Mr Miller.

The woman was taken to a nearby hospital with hip injuries and is in a stable condition.
