The equation should actually be: CaC2 + 2H2O → C2H2 + Ca(OH)2
The reaction creates acetylene and calcium hydroxide and you're igniting the acetylene.

Real acetylene, (the stuff in oxy-acetylene cylinders is not acetylene) is extremely dangerous and unstable and ignition can be triggered by light. Playing with acetylene isn't a great idea.
