Le Mans 24h - McNish survives horrific accident

Eurosport 06/11/2011:

"Former winner Allan McNish escaped serious injury after crashing his Audi shortly after the start of the Le Mans 24 Hours race.
The official race website said the Scot, who stepped out of the wreckage unaided, was unhurt but taken to the circuit medical centre for precautionary checks.

The safety car was deployed after the accident involving the number three Audi R18 and the Ferrari 458 driven by Anthony Beltoise, with German Timo Bernhard leading the race in the number one Audi.

The number two Audi driven by Frenchman Benoit Treluyer was in second place.

McNish had been challenging Bernhard, overtaking his team mate after the Dunlop Bridge but then clipping the slower Ferrari.

The Audi, which McNish was sharing with Denmark's Tom Kristensen and Italian Rinaldo Capello, was launched sideways into the gravel trap and nearly cleared the barriers with bodywork flying."

Close call for the photographers and stewards there!
That one could have ended badly.
