FOND DU LAC, Wis.
The Wisconsin State Patrol says the pilot who landed his plane safely on a Fond du Lac highway yesterday evening is an Ohio man heading to an aviation show.
The pilot was identified as William Leff of Dayton, Ohio.
Authorities say he and his son were traveling to the EAA AirVenture show in Oshkosh when he experienced engine problems about 7:45 p.m.
Leff touched down on U.S. Highway 41, snarling traffic in both directions for hours.
No injuries were reported, but the plane's right wing was damaged when it hit several highway signs.
State Patrol Sergeant John Jones says authorities were already on site assisting a motorist.
He says the plane touched down behind one trooper and regained altitude - then landed and came to a stop in the northbound lane.
