The most complete account of the events leading to the shoot down of Turkish F4 II Phantom reconnaissance plane over Syria.

The RF-4E was accompanied by an electronic signal intelligence CASA 235
aircraft which remained outside of Syrian airspace while the RF-4E was
making runs in and out of Syrian airspace in an effort to get the
Syrians to activate their air defense systems so that electronic
intelligence could be gathered. The Turkish government is blatantly lying and trying to cover up what happened to save face. The fact is
the RF-4E was not shot down by a SAM but by anti aircraft artillery
(AAA) which means it was flying close to shore and flying low. Had the
Syrians launched a SAM as the Turkish government is claiming, not only
would it have showed up on Turkish land based radar but also on the
RF-4E's onboard warning system and there would at least be radio chatter
from the pilot and evidence of evasive action, none of that exists!

  • If necessary, Nato will use this and the next incident as a pretext to intervene without the permission of the Security Council

  • Turkey deserved to get shot down. They can fuck off back to Turkey and stop flying in Syria.

  • Anti-aircraft battery? If I remember correctly in the vid that was proposed to be that of the shoot down in which no jet was seen, the only gunfire I heard was that of small arms coming from the beach.

    • @gonehuntin that was bigger then small arms.. I didn't see where it was coming from or what it was shooting at.. or if it was even there (editing added sound effects)

    • @Aariss
If you're talking about the video for this thread, that was a random edit. Im speaking of a different vid from a day or so ago. Im guessing it was from the beach area or the hill above in the other vid. Sure sounded like small arms to me.

    • @gonehuntin yeah i know the one you are talking about and that was the one i was referring to. it was AA but i couldn't tell if that was added in and they guys on the beach were just cheering.

    • @gonehuntin can you give us the link of that vid?

  • dont look too much state television. It's one sided, the news you WANT to hear.

Plane shot 1km from beach at a altitude of 100m and crashes 10km off beach, must be a very powerfull artillery!

i dont believe the Turkish explanation, but this is really bullsh*t.

  • What a mess they got going on over there.

  • easy to prove this .. if it was shot down with a missile, it could have been outside Syrian airspace.. if the wreckage shows bullet holes.. well AA doesn't have 12km range so.. it was inside Syria.

    • @Aariss yes correct, anyway, witness say it was ack ack and there is a video of the engagement I am trying to locate.

    • @nutsflipped if it's the one from the beach it proves nothing and you can't see anything and the audio could have been added or it could be library footage

  • The Official Syrian report says the aircraft was engaged by anti-aircraft guns, not missiles.

    • @DEADBEEF Anti-aircraft gun of the Pantsir system.

What's your source. My source is SANA and it specifically says machinegun and no radar.

    • @DEADBEEF the Syrian ministry of information is screwing up again. They totally mishandled the mig-21 story.
"Makdessi affirmed that the weapon used in repelling this violation of Syrian airspace was anti-aircraft artillery firing 23.57 rounds stationed on Syrian beaches, hitting the aircraft directly, adding that the aircraft was seen heading left afterwards and crashing in Syrian territorial waters."
      What's a "23.57 round"?
I tell you the story as it is. Raw and no propag More..

    • @nutsflipped "Heading left"? Are they driving a car or an airplane. Take a left on the next cloud bank?

      Posted Jun-28-2012 By

    • @nutsflipped

I'll give them the benefit of a doubt on 23.57.

They were certainly referring to the ZU23-2 AA cannon which has a 23mm nominal calibre, but may well be 23.57mm if you take into account the driving band on the ammunition.

Otherwise I agree, SANA sounds like a 1950s Soviet style news bureau. Their phrasing is awful.

Where did you see the Pantsir reference?
