One of the military police officers in charge of a pacific protest in Rio de Janeiro was filmed tasing a girl from behind. The incident happened in Presidente Vargas Avenue, around 4pm, when students gathered around to protest against the bus fare.
The video shows the cop tasing two people. The second one is a female protester holding a sign while standing next to the road. The victim did not see it coming, for the cop approached her from behind and tased her just below her arms. Other students see the cop's actions and start screaming "coward!" as he walks away. Not a single protester tried to resist or cause the police any trouble.
The Military Police released a note to the press saying they will start an investigation on the case and identify the officer shown in the video. He may get his license suspended for a certain period of time or even spend some time behind bars. The non-lethal weapon used by the cop is not officially adopted by the Military Police. They also said that they were there to clear the traffic, since the obstruction of public roads is a crime.
