I don't understand why Germany is going through with this trial. The israelis said he was Ivan the Terrible. So the Americans sent him to israel and israel sentenced him to death. Then they said he was not Ivan the Terrible and they sent him back to the U.S. Now they say he is some guard at Sobibor.

This has been ongoing for the last 20 years. Germany is probably hoping he dies before his trial because many people think this is cruel and unusual punishment. These extremists in the Simon Weasel centre sound like barbarians.

German prosecutors have officially charged accused Nazi guard John Demjanjuk with 27,900 counts of being an accessory to murder.

Prosecutors in Munich said in a brief statement that charges were filed Monday, but did not indicate when the trial would begin.

Prosecutors allege Demjanjuk was a guard at the Sobibor camp in Nazi-occupied Poland in 1943, where they say he was complicit in the murders of thousands of Jews.

The native Ukrainian has denied having any role in the killings. Demjanjuk says he was a Red Army soldier who spent the Second World War as a Nazi prisoner of war.

Demjanjuk's legal team has tried to stall legal proceedings.

But the defence failed in an April attempt to stay his deportation from his Ohio home, and also argued unsuccessfully that he was unfit to stand trial.

Demjanjuk says he is gravely ill and suffers from severe spinal, hip and leg pain, a bone marrow disorder, kidney disease, anemia, kidney stones, arthritis, gout and spinal deterioration.

His son, John Demjanjuk Jr., said that German doctors have determined his father has about 16 months to live, due to his incurable leukemic bone marrow disease.

Earlier this month, doctors determined the 89-year-old is fit to face trial on condition that court sessions do not exceed two 90-minute periods per day.
