LIVINGSTON COUNTY, MI -- A 13-year-old boy Michigan boy is charged with fleeing and eluding police and driving a stolen vehicle. Livingston County police said the young suspect stole a jacket at an East Lansing elementary school that had keys to an SUV in it. The keys belonged to his middle school teacher.
Officers chased the teen along eastbound I-96 at speeds of more than 100 mph from Lansing into Ingham County on Monday night Police said the teen motorist was seen weaving in and out of traffic before veering off onto the shoulder.
The teen smashed an abandoned SUV on the side of the road, and then came to a crashing halt when he hit a silver Ford Taurus driving on the road. The elderly couple inside the Taurus were OK, according to police.
"They are elderly people, they're fine. They are walking and talking," said Lt. Eric Sanborn of the Livingston County Sheriff's Department.
The air bags in the stolen vehicle were deployed and police said the SUV was totaled. A medical chopper transported the teen to Ann Arbor hospital. He was treated and released and is now locked up in a Washtenaw County juvenile facility.
