Iranian Majlis Speaker says the enemies of Islam create discord among Muslim countries in order to rule over their energy resources.

Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel made the remark at a conference on the convergence of opinion between Shia and Sunni clerics and intellectuals held in Tehran on Tuesday.

Haddad-Adel said the US is seeking to control energy resources of Muslim countries to be able to rule over the world via the axis of oil, because it is energy that matters in today's world.

The speaker added enemies try to sow the seeds of discord between Shia and Sunni as soon as Muslims attempt to become independent and to determine their future on the basis of Islamic culture.

"A coherent strategy and a permanent authority comprised of Muslim clerics and politicians should develop to secure peace among Islamic nations."

A two-day conference on the convergence of opinion between Shia and Sunni clerics and intellectuals kicked off at Iran's Islamic Culture and Communication Organization on Tuesday. Intellectuals from different Islamic countries are attending the gathering.
