CCTV:March 25/08:Shortly after midnight Chattanooga police spotted a truck that was stolen March 16th. The suspect behind the wheel did not pull over, instead he led police on a chase along I-24.
Lt. Kim Noorbergen, "They gave chase all the way to the Brown's Ferry Road exit, when they got there they exited the interstate and got back on the interstate, but the suspect then crossed all the way over to the oncoming lane and was driving the wrong way on the interstate."
Lt. Kim Noorbergen says the suspect, Donyell Holland, might have been in a hurry to get away because of his previous run-ins with the law.
Lt. Noorbergen, "From my knowledge he was not intoxicated he was just trying to evade, he knew that it was a stolen truck, he's no stranger to the law."
The chase continued through the Rossville Blvd area. Police threw out stop sticks but the suspect got around them. Police finally nabbed Holland in Alton Park, after a short foot chase."
Lt. Noorbergen says overall, carjackings are uncommon. "It's going to happen, especially when people are out and about at this time and they don't have a ride somewhere. I don't know that it's intentional people taking cars because they want that particular car, a lot of times it's people wanting a ride so the best thing they do it just carjack somebody."
Lt. Noorbergen says police policy prohibits officers from driving the opposite direction on the road during a chase. They plan to look into what happened last night.
