The virulent cattle disease foot and mouth has broken out again in England. The Agriculture Ministry confirmed the outbreak at a farm west of London, and banned all movement of cows, sheep and pigs. EU spokesman Michael Mann said it means a renewed ban on British meat exports.
Police enforced an exclusion zone around the affected farm at Egham in Surrey. Another alert was reported in Norfolk, and there were concerns about a sheep at a livestock show in Scotland. That was later dismissed. Vet Nick Blayney says it's a disaster for the British agriculture industry.
The latest outbreak follows last month's crisis when hundreds of cattle were slaughtered. Britain suffered a crippling outbreak of foot and mouth in 2001, when more than six million animals were slaughtered, costing the economy more than 12 billion euros.
