TORONTO, CANADA: The Americans attacked us thinking we were easy, we assembled our forces and beat them back across the border and marched (literally) all the way to Washington DC and burnt the White House down.
We also kicked German arse in 1942, Google "Dieppe Raid". We kicked ass in Somalia (1993) and in Bosnia (1995) in some of our feats across the world.

Ok, patriotism aside, we did not "kick ass" in any of those places.
In 1812, it was the british army - fresh from the recently won Napoleonic wars - not canadians who kicked the american's asses.
Dieppe was a one sided ass kicking on the germans' part - possibly the worst defeat in canadian military history. They barely even got off the beach.
The only asses canadians kicked in somalia was that of defenceless children tied up in a bunker.

I stand corrected. I misinterpreted something i read about 1812 - that being that the american incursions were not quashed earlier by the british becuase of the ongoing wars against napoleon had their forces tied up.
But i agree, there is a lot of military history for canada to be proud of. The unfortunate thing is that some feel being proud means having to denigrate the next guy - in many cases, that being the US. It's "little brother" syndrome, and it's rampant a More..

@Ham_Sandwich27 wait what... The British army was still fighting Napoleon during the same time as the war of 1812. The defense of Canada was mostly Militia and Indians with regulars making up about 1/2.
Dieppe was a disaster, but Canadians went farther then anyone thought they could. Troops made it into Dieppe before being driven back into the sea. British commanders fucked that all up.

Before America gets a little testy about us burning down the White House and everything, I just want to remind you like half the people the invading force ran into gladly pointed out where the White House was because they didn't give a fuck.
