  • When I was in elementary school, the seventies, the earth had between 3.5 and 4 billion people. No, I not an old geezer. The population has roughly doubled since then.

With greater and greater numbers of people the odds of a catastrophic disaster increases. Diseases, specifically viruses or other difficult to destroy "bugs", in my opinion, are the single most likely large scale disaster. This disaster could have an effect large enough to actually reduce our numbers by a statisticall More..

So, it will work itself out. Good enough for me, I am not going to worry.

I think your avatar says it all. If you have those two things you can safely barter for everything else you might need.

And if you are the last one, no need to share the whiskey.

Yeah but it doesn't take much a genius to figure that if the population keeps increasing at the exponential rate that it is, we will not be able to sustain it. Regardless, I think at the moment overpopulation is more toward the bottom of the list of shit that could be the death of us all.

I'd be more worried about producing the increased level of energy that the world demands, that will become a problem long before feeding people does.

  • I'm not wasting 10 minutes on this, but it stands to reason that real systems have physical limits. Therefore at WORST if we do nothing, resource limitations will clamp maximum population. Moreover as people rise in wealth and education, they recognize that the future looks sketchy as well as expensive, and they willfully choose to limit their own contribution to the population. And in fact estimates show that the population will level off going forward barring developments allowing for great More..

  • Malthus did it first, and he was wrong as fuck.

  • So, basically, the world, and everyone on it, eventually will be fucked. Got it.
