Trayvon Martin had drugs in his system at time of death

SANFORD, Fla. --Trayvon Martin, the Florida teen shot and killed by former neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman in February, had drugs in his system at the time of his death, ABC News reported Thursday.



Martin's autopsy report shows traces of the drug THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, were found in Martin's blood and urine, according to ABC News.

The report came shortly after prosecutors announced they would be releasing hundreds of documents in the case to the public Thursday.

Zimmerman pleaded not guilty in April to second-degree murder in the Feb. 26 shooting death of Martin.

The former neighborhood watchman told police he shot Martin in self-defense after the unarmed African-American teen attacked him in a gated community in Sanford, Fla., an Orlando suburb.

The six-week interval between Martin's death and Zimmerman's arrest sparked national protests about perceived racial injustice.

  • Wow, I can't believe how much ABC, MSNBC, HLN, and CNN have all lost credibility over new unaltered evidence coming out. Zimmerman should sue the hell out of all those agencies. He should also file lawsuit against Al Sharpton.

  • Let me get this strait, a black teen with the persona of a 'gangsta' is killed in a fight and this is a national debate while countless cases of violent black on white crime go unpublicized.   • A drug-dealing jewelry thieving bus driver lady beating stoner was suspended from school, high as a kite, and out casing joints he could rob at some time in the near future. He was spotted and then turned into a wild animal when seeing how diminutive a stature his victim had.   • The prosecutors affidavit was intentionally incomplete in this case. It is her responsibility to offer up all evidence regardless of weather it helps or hurts the prosecutions case. I really hope she it tried and convicted for misleading the court, it would help reel in those within our legal system that promote their agendas over justice.

  • Let's be fair here, they have already ruled that there wasn't a substantial amount found. THC can stay in your system for 30 days, it doesnt mean you're high. I think we all knew he would have weed in him, I wouldn't be surprised if Zimmerman did too. Everyone smokes weed, especially in Florida.

    Martin did some stupid shit, Zimmerman did some stupid shit, they were both stupid. Zimmerman shouldn't have been nosey and Martin shouldnt have been violent.

    • @r00ted Under current law he can't be charged, and there's nothing anyone can do about that. You can't write a law and charge people for doing something that was legal at the time, but I do think we need to change the law a little bit so that you can't do something like pursue a person, possibly start a fight, and then kill someone when you start to lose.

      Zimmerman didn't have weed in his system. You don't know how much was found in Martin, nor do we. Considering how many arrests and burglaries had started occuring recently in the neighborhoodZimmerman was being a good naighbor and doing his civic duty. Martin was from miami and a delinquent pot head burgar who obviously had violent tendencies and I am sure there are record of himstarting fights at schooltoo, especially with smaller kids.

Second, if you read the actual report and not just what OP posted, they did conclude it was not a great enough amount to have been used within the same day. Also, Zimmerman wasn't doing his "duty." His duty was to call the cops from his porch, not patrol the neighborhood.
