On August 18th 2011, 8 people were killed and 40 injured in a multi-pronged terror attack that targeted Israeli civilians. As part of the attack, rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip at Israel. More than 25 rockets were launched towards the communities of southern Israel, in the past day.
The Iron Dome System, an active air defense system, intercepted a number of the rockets. The system intercepts short-range rockets before they hit Israeli territory. The Iron Dome provides part of the solution to rocket fire that targets Israel's southern communities.
The video above shows the interception of a rocket launched towards Ashkelon, home to 112,900 people.
