Winter Weather Claims Lives In The Alps.

Two skiers have died after being swept away in an avalanche in the southern French alps. The men, aged 23 and 27, were reported missing in the Belledonne mountain range by their families on Saturday evening. Their bodies were found by rescue teams on Sunday afternoon.

A cold snap and heavy winds have swept through Alpine regions of France and Italy over the past few days, increasing the risk of avalanches. Up to 50 centimetres of fresh snow have fallen at altitude.

Elsewhere, an avalanche in northern Italy killed at least four people and injured another five. The group of 12 was hit by the avalanche on Monte Maniva, near the city of Brescia, as they were riding on snowmobiles. Rescuers dug the injured people out of the snow and are still looking for three others who are missing.

Two young skiers were also killed in the popular resort of Livigno on Saturday.
