1) Images of skeletal bodies of Jewish prisoners in the concentration camp of Buchenwald. This is the chilling publicity stunt (born with humorous intent) of a company that produces diet pills. The photos, accompanied by a slogan that emphasizes how in Buchenwald there were no people who are overweight, have been published in the humorous weekly Eesti Ekspress, a newspaper published in Estonia and they immediately sparked controversy. Sulev Vedler, the deputy editor of "Eesti Ekspress, said that the ad was a joke against a gas company that had recently used an image of Auschwitz to promote its services.
2) The website of GasTerm Eesti published on Thursday a photograph of the front gate of the Nazi camp Auschwitz bearing the infamous inscription “Arbeit macht frei,” or “Work makes you free.” The caption of the photo read: “Gas heating — flexible, convenient, and effective.”The next day the photo was removed from the company’s website and an apology was posted.Company director Sven Linros said, according to the DzD.ee news portal, “Hitler killed himself because he got a gas bill… a lot of people laugh at this, but I do not. I visited Auschwitz with dread. I feel sorry for the victims and their families. The picture was intended for a narrow group of people. We wanted to clarify that the CH4 gas is not toxic and can be used to heat buildings, even those with such a sad history.”This is not the first case of Auschwitz pictures being used in an advertisement. In January, a gym in Dubai used an image from Auschwitz with the tag line “Kiss your calories goodbye.”
3) A Dubai-based gym may have topped all controversial ads with this one. The Circuit Factory took “tasteless” to new heights when it tagged a haunting picture of a Nazi death camp with the slogan “Kiss Your Calories Goodbye.”
The Circuit Factory’s owner, Phil Parkinson removed the ad from the gym’s Facebook page and did apologize on both Facebook and Twitter. “The guy who created it isn’t with us any more,” he also said.
