An auto theft suspect who said he was going to change his life after his brother was killed in an officer-involved shooting at Deerbrook Mall is wanted in connection with an aggravated robbery.
Humble police said the robbery incident, which was caught by surveillance cameras, took place at a Walmart in Humble the day before the Deerbrook shooting.
Police said Joaquin Carlon and his brother, Esteban Carlon, were caught on camera stealing a car and running over an innocent woman and her husband as they tried to get away.
Investigators said the Carlons were breaking into cars in the Deerbrook Mall parking lot the next day when an Humble police officer shot Esteban Carlon.
The Walmart surveillance video, shot on January 23, shows an SUV pull in behind a parked car.
Police said that SUV was driven by Esteban Carlon.
Another person – identified by police as Joaquin Carlon – is seen exiting the SUV and entering the parked vehicle.
Moments after that, police said the parked car’s owners, a husband and wife, came out of the Walmart.
Police said as the woman tried to get into her vehicle, Joaquin Carlon threw it into reverse, dragging her along until he hit a car parked behind him.
The woman shattered her arm and broke a leg.
Police said the husband then hopped in the car and started struggling with the suspect, who punched the gas, lost control and crashed into another parked car.
At that point, the SUV allegedly driven by Esteban Carlon lurched forward and T-boned the victims’ vehicle, injuring the husband.
Police said his leg was shattered.
