KABUL (AFP) — A soldier with a NATO-led force operating in southern Afghanistan was killed in a bomb blast, the military said Tuesday.
"An International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) service member was killed in an improvised explosive device attack in southern Afghanistan yesterday (Monday)," it said in a statement that gave no further details.
ISAF does not release the nationalities of its casualties, leaving this to their home nation.
The deployment numbers more than 58,000 troops from 42 countries, according to its latest information. It works alongside a US-led coalition that is estimated to number around 10,000 although the figure is not public.
The latest death takes to 85 the number of international soldiers to lose their lives in Afghanistan this year, most of them in hostile action, according to a tally maintained by icasualties.org.
