    • @doofer Looks like a laser guided rocket to the rear, watch closely you can see a dark object come straight to the ass end of the tank, not down but straight... so, My guess is anti-tank rocketry smuggled from Turkey.

I downloaded and watched frame-by-frame... definitely a rocket strike from a ground source

    • @qwerty4242 nothing hit the tank, it must have been an internal malfunction. The shell might have exploded in the breech...

    • @Boggle101 Wrong, a round or missile from THE GROUND hit the back of the tank.. I am 110% sure, yes that sure... watch the HD link below from youtube, or download and watch frame by frame like I did, its crazy! and see this is what happens... a round hits the back, and then the tank shoots a round. The fire begins, and the man tries to get out before it blows.

you can clearly see the guy fly out as the tall fire ball extends high and you hear sounds of 2 things detonating and explodes, he cartwh More..

  • when anti-tank missile hits it gets 400-500 celcius degrees inside with this exterm heat ammo starts exploding including the one inside the canon or if the gunner was holding the trigger he may squeze it with the pain of extrenme heat.... all of that happens in less than a sec so no body can be sure of which happened first...

Thanks for the link. Think the gunner pulled the trigger as a last reflex. One crew member escaped through the floor hatch with very severe burn injuries.

    • @Braunix
The tank didn't fire a round. (no visible retracting barrel and no recoil can be seen)
Smoke escaped out of the barrel because of an open breech. The smoke and fire that comes out of the barrel is the burning propellant of all those ignited cartridges inside the tank.
After the propellent ignites, the whole tank bursts out in flames and one crewmember I guess the gunner gets thrown out of his top hatch and running away. You can see him bouncing to the ground behind the tank right after More..

    • @mistermister
      actually it did fire.

the energy transmited from the anti tank missle is more than enough to ignite the powder instantly.
thats why you can hear a second explosion after the actual AT hit. the round fired hit a building nearby.

and if you pay very close attention there actually was recoil. The barrel ofthe tank went back, you can see this when comparing the camoflage strips with the background details

Adrenaline kept him alive for a minute or two and he is toast, especially without proper burn care (not happening in syria lol)

Usually main gun is loaded at battle situation, and here main gun fired for variety of reasons.

  • The tank gunner was about to fire. The impact of the explosion on the tank, made the gunner pull the trigger.

And nice to see someone managing to escape out of the rear exit of the tank.

There is no "rear exit" in that tank. Only tanks i know to have something like a rear door are Israeli made. Either that blast threw him out or he was outside when tank was hit.

there is no rear exit bro... the guy was outside behind the tank from the begining of the video... i think he was placing a mine of some kind but it expolodet when he placed it.

  • My thoughts of the surviving man and the flapping of arms.

He was in the turret when the explosion occurred.
The force pulled him out of the tank and blew his pants to bits also forced his upper body clothes up.

The extreme temperature from the flame, melted parts of the clothes to the skin, making it impossible to correct to normal fit.

  • Hit by a shell not a rocket from the left of frame, I notice the impact triggered the main gun at the same instance, guy that ran away seems to have been ejected from the turret when the ammo started to cook off. I doubt he was ok, amazing he was even able to move! Looked to me he might have been missing his right arm. No idea what side he was fighting on or if it even matters poor F***ker, that's going to leave a mark.

  • Aren't the SAA supposed to be a professional army. I was never in the army but it seems to me that to simply park your tank for a spot of shooting in a built up urban area, with such little cover that some dude with an iphone can film a documentary means your are tired of living.

    Posted Jan-27-2013 By

    • @InsertWittyHandleHere Good point. Tank in urban areas are sitting ducks when stationary - we learnt this playing tames like Desert Combat and Battlefield 1942.

Maybe the crew was having lunch?

    • @InsertWittyHandleHere

      "Professional" is a relative term.

Compared to modern Western armies, the SAA is 3rd or 4th rate.

Compared to the al-Qaeda terrorists they are fighting, they are relatively "professional", relatively well trained and relatively well equipped.

But it is an Arab/Moo Slum country, so...

      Posted Jan-27-2013 By

      (0) | Report

    • @InsertWittyHandleHere Only a few select units headed by members of Assad's Alawite community are considered professional, as in they get the best pay and the best equipment. Most the SAA are third rate conscripts. Remember, the original FSA was formed by members of the SAA who got sick of being ordered to kill civilians.

  • Sussed it...Anti tank round hits the tank..exploded inside, tank breach is open so the tank did not fire its just blast pressure from inside blowing out the barrel...hence why it smokes at the end.

    • @PWD
You are right. If the gun fired a projectile there would be visible recoil. So the AT grenade didn't ignite the cartridge inside the chamber. Couldn't be anyway because the cartridges are fired through an electrical impulse.

So the tank got hit from behind, set off the propellant of the cartridges, due to the pressure one crewmember got thrown out of his hatch (probably the gunner) and lands behind the tank and runs away. Driver and commander are dead meat.

      Posted Jan-27-2013 By

    • @PWD
      disagree.

      1. there was visible recoil from the barrel, this means it fired a round. just compare the barrel`s camouflage stipes to the background details, it moves a lot back.

      2. there was secondary explosion, which further suggests the round fired hit a building nearby.

      3. With a round chambered, there is no need for "electrical pulse" like the other guy said to be ignited, any energy at this power transmitted, whether electrical, mechanical or whatever is more than enough More..
