Man Shot, Set on Fire in Known Arizona Drug Smuggling Corridor

Avra Valley, Arizona

Pima County Sheriff's spokesman Jason Ogan said a man was killed some time after 4:30 a.m. Saturday morning in Ironwood National Forest. Detectives are at the scene at 10 a.m. investigating the incident, which they say is a homicide.

The dead man has not been publicly identified.

Authorities are looking for suspects.

Here is Ogan's account of the killing near Mile Wide Road and Reservation Road:

"The call originated from Border Patrol at approximately 4:30 a.m. They observed a blacked-out truck enter the Ironwood National Forest.

"They heard what sounded like a gunshot and then saw flames originating from the area. The vehicle left at a high rate of speed on Reservation Road. Border Patrol followed but eventually lost sight of the vehicle.

"Upon Homicide (detectives') arrival, they discovered a deceased male with burns to his entire body. The investigation continues."
