That article is about churches that were forced to close down by the Muslims in Aceh (read: Aa-cheh) province in Indonesia. It’s the same province that got hit by a tsunami several years ago. Many Muslims thought the tsunami was the punishment from Allah because they didn’t apply Syariah law in their land. Soon after that, Aceh became the only province in Indonesia that apply Syariah. Churches in Aceh are closed/banned

Is it true that the application of Islamic Syaria will not impact non-Muslim groups? Apparantely, it is not true! On the Nov. 19th, 2011, seventeen churches in Aceh Singkil District were forced to close. The closing was done by the Local Administrator because of the insistence of the ulamas. The closing was done by force and threat toward the Christians.
The seventeen churches were already established since the Dutch colonial era (before 1945) and here is the list:

1. Christian Church Pak Pak Daeri (GKPPD) Kab. Aceh Singkil, 12 church buildings.
2. Indonesian Christian Huria (HKI) Kab Aceh Singkil, 1 church building.
3. Indonesian Church Injil Mission(GMII) Kab Aceh Singkil, 1 church building.
4. Catholic Church, Kab. Aceh Singkil, 3 church buildings.

Up to now, about 10,000 of those church congregation live in fear and terror. Most of them don’t dare to worship anymore, while others do the worship in palm plantations.
After Syaria is applied in Nagroe Aceh Darussalam, there is no more freedom to worship for non-Islamic religions. Female Christians suffered pebbles throwing by Muslims because they don’t wear hijab.
Other news report says that in 1988, Mid of Aceh, a building of Christian Batak Protestan Huria was burnt. The congregation intent to rebuild their church but not permitted by the local government.
