The Pima County Sheriff's department has released audio recordings of radio transmissions made the morning that Gabrielle Giffords and 18 others were shot in Tucson. The transmissions show that the first alert sent to deputies warned them of multiple victims down and that Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords might be among them.

The dispatcher quickly followed up with this advisory: "Customers have tackled the suspect. They are holding him down at the Safeway."

The first units on the scene confirmed that multiple casualties were down. "Multiple people down. I'm counting at least ten," one said.

"There are multiple victims. We need a lot more units here," another transmission advised.

One of the first responders quickly confirmed that Gabrielle Giffords appeared to be among the wounded.
