1 Month Jail Time For Trooper Who Hit, Choked, And Pointed Loaded Gun At His Wife

EVERETT -- A former Washington State Patrol trooper was sentenced
Wednesday to a month in jail after pleading guilty to assaulting his
wife earlier this year.Jeffrey Muren, 37, was arrested in March
after his wife told Monroe police that her husband had pointed a loaded
gun at her. The woman also reported that her husband had hit and choked
her.Muren reportedly spoke with detectives and said that he did
not remember any of the incidents his wife described, according to the
police report. He also told police that he didn't think his wife would
lie about any incidents.Muren on Wednesday pleaded guilty to
fourth-degree domestic violence assault. An Everett District Court judge
sentenced him to a month in jail, but authorized electronic home
monitoring, if Muren qualifies.Everett defense attorney Pete
Mazzone said Wednesday he expects that his client will serve his
sentence at home. Muren wasn't taken into custody. As part of his conviction, Muren is barred from carrying a gun.He had been with the State Patrol for eight years, working most recently at the North Bend detachment. The
Washington State Patrol recently received Muren's letter of
resignation, agency spokesman Bob Calkins said Wednesday. Because he is
no longer employed by the State Patrol, the agency has canceled plans
for an internal investigation.
