As John Muir wrote of the grizzly bear...."To him almost everything is food except granite."
The National Park Service is advising hikers to be alert for bears and take extra precautions to avoid an encounter.
They advise park visitors to wear little bells on their clothes so they make noise when hiking. The bell noise allows bears to hear them coming from a distance and not be startled by a hiker accidentally sneaking up on them. This might cause abear to charge.
Visitors should also carry a pepper spray can just in case a bear is encountered. Spraying the pepper into the air will irritate the bear's sensitive nose and it will run away.
It is also a good idea to keep an eye out for fresh bear scat so you have an idea if bears are in the area. People should be able to recognize the difference between black bear and grizzly bear scat.
Black bear droppings are smaller and often contain berries, leaves, and possibly bits of fur.
Grizzly bear droppings tend to contain small bells and smell of pepper.

That is so disgusting. Why would anyone film that "shit" and put it on here? And why did I just subject myself to viewing that horrible shit.

@Anthony Mandich Because most of us on here are curious...about life in all it's real forms, whether it is aggression of drug dealers resulting in the brutal death of rivals or the beauty in seeing the joy of a deaf child, after an operation, hearing his mothers voice for the first time.
And all the shit in between, including a grizzly's scat with porcupine quills in it.

Porcupine needles stick in a bear's tongue, making it impossible to feed again. Bear probably died later.

That last line has gotta be the best part of the whole article... In the article it says for hikers to wear bells to make noise and to spray pepper spray in the air to irritate their noses... yet at the end it says the scat may contain bells and smell of pepper, LOL

And here I was, thinking the quills prevent porcupines from being eaten.
