Hiroshima 66 years later vs Detroit 66 years later

We
all know that Hiroshima and Nagasaki were destroyed in August 1945 after the explosion of atomic bombs.

However, we know little about the progress made by the people of that land during the past 65 years.

HIROSHIMA
- 66 YEARS LATER

Detroit 66 years after Hiroshima

What has caused more long term destruction? Nuclear weapons or U.S. Government Welfare programs created to buy the votes of those who want someone to take care of them?

Japan does not have a welfare system.

  • And this is why. Before posting BS please try to get the facts. This serves no purpose. This is just stupidity in pure form.

The Question was asked Margaret Dewar, a professor of architecture and urban planning at the University of Michigan. Did welfare cause Detroit’s problems?

"That is ridiculous," Dewar said, adding that she has never heard anyone suggest welfare was a contributing factor. Since 1950, Detroit has lost more than 80 percent of its jobs, Dewar said, because manufac More..

  • This isn't an objective post. There are some really bad pictures of Detroit in here. It is a shithole though.

Detroit wasn't ruined becuase of welfare. It was ruined becuase manufacturers left the city when the car companies were doing poorly.

People stopped buying SUV's which is what the car companies were producing because of the profit being made and the high demand for them.

When the car companies left, Detorit fell apart.

    • @cswartz, I traveled the streets of Detroit regularly as a repairman for coin op laundries in apartment dwellings. You are right, it is a shit hole but only because of the hand it was dealt.
Flint is also deteriorating rapidly after it's auto industry evaporated.
There are many small Michigan cities that have been adversely affected by the auto industry downturn. Small industry that provided specialized part support for the auto industry and provided many jobs had previously peppered the state More..

    • @cswartz: Progressive Democrat run citys like Detroit are failed business models. A direct result of progressive ideology that promotes government solutions that add no value to the community and hinders free enterprise. When you are left with a three generations of welfare recipients with no education or skill sets, you are destined for failure as a city.

  • Excellent post, and very true. Welfare only destroys.

    • @Fred Flintstone, Bone up on the industrial history of Detroit and it's surrounding areas like Willow Run. You will find that it was industrial abandonment that caused the increased dependency on welfare. Poor people lived in those houses after the industry crash until they were either condemned or simply deteriorated beyond repair. Now, even the land below them is worthless. You can now buy one of these gems for $1.00 if you commit to restoring it.

    • @corgi_o_ner Detroit managed to commit economic suicide. Sad fact, but true. UAW had a big hand in that. Much of Detroit's industry has been replaced or moved. Can you say Toyota?

    • @Fred Flintstone, Agreed, it was basically greed that destroyed the industry. Welfare was the end result, not the initial cause of the demise. Just think about it though, if welfare enabled those people to live high on the hog their houses would still be occupied or suitable for occupancy. People bailed out to seek a livelihood and left a ghost town behind.

  • I know Dtroit sucks but there are a few nice parts of the city. Notice how the pic of Hiroshima was of the whole city and the pics of Detroit were of a few buildings at a time. It's pretty much like the fibonacci sequence except Japan remains clean as you zoom in.

There welfare system is different but they have one. From wiki: Social welfare, assistance for the ill or otherwise disabled and for the old, has long been provided in Japan by both the government and private companies. Beginning in the 1920s, the government enacted a series of welfare programs, based mainly on European models, to provide medical care and financial support. During the postwar period, a comprehensive More..
