NBC is launching an internal investigation into its handling of a news story that ran on the Today show involving the 911 call from George Zimmerman on the night he shot teenager Trayvon Martin, The Washington Post reports.

Post
blogger Erik Wemple reports that NBC informs him in a statement that it
will look into the "editorial process surrounding this particular
story."In the NBC report that aired March 27, Zimmerman appears
to volunteer that the suspicious person (Trayvon) that he was observing
"looks black."Zimmerman: This guy looks like he's up to no good. He looks black.

Here is the full, unedited text of the exchange in which the dispatcher raises the race issue:

Zimmerman:
This guy looks like he's up to no good. Or he's on drugs or something.
It's raining and he's just walking around, looking about.Dispatcher: OK, and this guy — is he black, white or Hispanic?

Zimmerman: He looks black.
