The Iranian national basketball team has lost 79-62 to the NBA side Dallas Mavericks in its first match in the Rocky Mountain Revue.
Iran managed to win the first quarter 20-18 after a brilliant start at the Salt Lake City court, which saw hundreds of enthusiastic Iranian fans. The two teams exchanged gifts before beginning the game.
Aaron Miles scored 12 points for the Mavericks to finish the second quarter with an 11-point lead for his team. Iran's Hamed Haddadi scored 13 points for Iran and had two blocks and nine rebounds in the first two quarters.
Dallas was dominant in the third quarter, which finished 25-8 in its favor. The Iranian squad ended the fourth quarter with an 11-point lead, but the final score was 79-62 in the Mavericks' favor.
Haddadi was Iran's top scorer with 19 points 2 assists and 16 rebounds and Samad Nikkhah Bahrami finished with 16 points. Gerald Green scored 15 points for the Mavericks. Aaron miles finished with 12 points and Reyshawn Terry finished with 11 points.
Iran's national basketball team was invited by the NBA to play four friendly matches in preparation for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games.
