Some of the remarkable news updates;

12:20pm – There are reports that the CTV site has been closed and no further rescue efforts will be made.

According to Newstalk ZB everyone still inside has died from asphyxiation. The instability of the building's structure means it is not safe for rescuers.

11:38am – According to a USAR spokesperson a camera has been put into the PGG building and they think they have found a pocket of 15 people who are alive.

This is unconfirmed but Mr Haines was sure they were alive.

He could not confirm if the people were aware they had been found.

Earlier today a woman was pulled out alive from the completely destroyed building.

11:15am – Superintendent Dave Cliff has just announced that at least 75 people are dead, with 55 identified bodies and 20 unidentified. 300 people still missing.

He says the 300 missing does not mean those people are likely to be dead, it just means they have been reported as missing.

11:14am - Health Minister Tony Ryall says the entire health service, both public and private, is pulling together to support Canterbury following yesterday's earthquake.

"Christchurch hospital has had more than 200 patients with major traumas. Staff have been performing field amputations to free people from where they have been trapped." more up to date info here;http://www.3news.co.nz/Christchurch-quake-State-of-emergency-declared/tabid/423/articleID/199401/Default.aspx
