  • By the way, Microsofts Surface uses cameras and projectors. You can see the problems with this as it would cast shadows, it wouldn't be as clear since it's uses projector, etc. Jeff actually uses a flat screen with no cameras, no projectors, etc. Much better and much more versatile.

It pretty obvious to me that this data will be collected by some corporation ffs.

Actually when this was shown on the Today Show by Bill Gates himself, he said you don't need to touch the screen because cameras under the display catch the mov More..

  • UltimaX: "It's not fake and the it's called "Surface". The title is misleading as it has a "digital" keyboard you type on. Anyway, it will be around $5,000 - $10,000 depending on the number of units sold. It's not geard toward home users though as it will only be sold to companies. It was mainly designed for casinos, fancy restaurants, etc. http://www.microsoft.com/surface/

If you think this was Microsofts idea then you are crazy though... It was actually Jeff Han's idea, but Microsoft had the resources to market it. I actually like Jeff's better though. See for your More..
Actually, Microsoft has been developing this even before Jeff Han came out with his system. An early version of the Surface was used in the movie "The Island"(2005):

However, I do agree that Han's multi-touch system is far more superior to the Microsoft Surface.

I wouldn't say it's a long way off, a few years at most. The price will go down dramatically as more and more people buy them, also taking into account Moore's Law.

  • I love the broad sweeping statements of " no more keyboards or mice". Ya right, that's a stupid thing to say. A keyboard and a mouse are still essential for many things, like games and any apps that need fine control like CAD packages. But they are cheaper than my average home computer, $5K isn't really all that bad.

  • I talked with Microsoft%u2019s Surface computing team today. Here%u2019s some more details I learned.

    1. Price. Will cost $5,000 to $10,000 and only be available to commercial customers (hotels, casinos, etc). Price depends on number of units purchased.
    2. Consumer availability? They are working on other surface computing products, but didn%u2019t have anything to announce yet. There are a few roadblocks to getting one of these in your home. First, it%u2019s expensive to build one because it More..
