Gunwalker: ATF Targets Were Actually FBI Informants It would be comical if we weren’t talking about dead federal agents and Mexican nationals.
Writing from the Los Angeles Times Washington Bureau, Richard Serrano reveals that at least six of the ATF’s targets in Operation Fast and Furious were paid FBI informants.
Your tax dollars at work:
In a letter to FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III, the investigators asked why U.S. taxpayers’ money apparently was paid to Mexican cartel members who have terrorized the border region for years in their efforts to smuggle drugs into this country, and to ship U.S. firearms into Mexico.
“We have learned of the possible involvement of paid FBI informants in Operation Fast and Furious,” wrote Rep. Darrel Issa (R-Vista), chairman of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and Sen. Charles E. Grassley of Iowa, the top Republican on the Senate Judiciary Committee. The two have been the leading congressional critics of the program.
“At least one individual who is allegedly an FBI informant might have been in communication with, and was perhaps even conspiring with, at least one suspect whom ATF was monitoring,” they wrote.
The FBI and DEA did not tell the ATF about the alleged informants. The ATF and congressional investigators learned later that those agencies apparently were paying cartel members whom the ATF wanted to arrest.
Police seize over a kilo of cocaine Submitted by KATU.com StaffWednesday, July 20th, 1:28 pm Topics: Crime, News 0 2 PrintE-mail PORTLAND, Ore. - While marijuana - both legally and illegally - seems to be the drug of choice in Portland, a recent bust shows that cocaine is still in the running.
The Multnomah County Sheriff's Office seized more than a kilo of cocaine recently. The street value was more than $100,000 and police said there was enough of the stuff for around 4,000 street deals.
Here is an account from the sheriff's office of how they tracked down the large amount of cocaine:
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) of the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office arrested two suspects after the discovery of more than a kilo (2.2 lbs) of cocaine. Acting on a tip, investigators from SIU conducted a traffic stop in Northeast Portland on a vehicle occupied by two Hispanic males suspected of dealing cocaine. The narcotics K-9 (Ellie) from SIU discovered small amounts of cocaine hidden under the passenger seat of the vehicle.
SIU investigators followed up the investigation by going to the suspect's Southeast Portland residence. At the residence approximately one kilo of cocaine and two handguns were discovered. One of the handguns was found to be stolen out of Portland. In addition, several fake and forged identification documents were confiscated. The kilo of cocaine was unique in that it was stamped with a logo similar to a brand name. The cocaine has a street level value in excess of $100,000. That kilo represents as many as 4,000 street level deals.
Jorge Antonio Vela (DOB 07/15/82) was arrested and charged with Possession, Distribution and Manufacture of Cocaine as well as Theft of a Weapon. In addition Jorge Vela had two outstanding warrants for DUII from Multnomah County.
Jose Efrain Bautistacetina (DOB 06/05/73) was arrested and charged with Possession, Distribution and Manufacture of Cocaine.
Both were lodged at the Multnomah County Detention Center.

Do Your Senators Oppose UN Gun Grab?
The ATT is the most comprehensive treaty of its kind and would regulate worldwide trade of weapons on everything from battleships to bullets. Few details of the treaty have been made public, but it is widely expected that the final draft will:
- Require gun owner registration
- Require ammunition “microstamping”
- Define “manufacturing” so broadly that any gun owner who adds so much as a scope or changes a stock on a firearm would be required to obtain a manufacturing license
- Include a ban on some types of semi-automatic firearms
- Include a ban .50 caliber firearms
- Demand the mandatory destruction of surplus ammo and confiscated firearms.
So far, the following Senators have joined Sen. Moran in publicly opposing any anti-gun treaty:
