After 7,000 supporters join event in honor of Hezbollah chief's 52nd birthday, social network removes page.

Following the removal of the birthday page, Nasrallah's fans made a united wish to meet their hero in the real world-

Hezbollah Secretary-General Hassan Nasrallah marked his 52nd birthday last week, and 7,000 Facebook users joined an event opened on the social network in celebration of his special day.


The Facebook event was organized by several of Nasrallah's young fans. According to Lebanese newspaper As-Safir, the page was quickly flooded with greetings in honor of the Hezbollah chief's birthday.

But only several hours after it was launched, the social network removed the event. According to As-Safir, this isn't an unusual move as many pages and accounts ofHezbollah supporters have been closed recently, likely following complaints from elements objecting to the "messages delivered by the resistance".


Before being removed, the Lebanese newspaper reported, the page was used to glorify Nasrallah. Many of his fans wished him longevity, while others thanked him for the resistance's victories and some even posted songs in honor of the event.


One of the supporters, who claimed to be a Hezbollah fighter, wrote: "On your birthday I wish you longevity so that you remain the flag sheltering all free men."


One of the participants of the virtual event added, "May you always be the secretary-general who has faith in the land, the honor, the blood and the soul…"


Another fan wrote, "We were blessed to have been born in an era ruled by Nasrallah."


The Lebanese newspaper further noted that Nasrallah's name was one of the most mentioned ones on Facebook, with many false profiles created either by his fans or opponents.

The website of Hezbollah's television station, al-Manar, expressed its discontent over the decision to close the Facebook page marking Nasrallah's birthday.
