Least we forget with a crisis there is always a silver lining. for the elite few. historically against the general publics interests and rights. The current banking chaos lead the global banking elites profits being guaranteed by the tax payers and lends to global leaders calling for a restructuring and centralisation of the global financial system and currencies.
European Central Bank council member Ewald Nowotny said a tri-polar global currency system is developing between Asia, Europe and the U.S. and that hes skeptical the U.S. dollars centrality can be revived.
BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso on Thursday said an "unprecedented" global coordination system should be established to resolve the financial crisis because no country could be immune to its effects.
Barroso, who is here to attend the seventh Asia-Europe Meeting (ASEM), said in the global financial summit scheduled for November, some basic and key principles should be set to prevent the recurrence of financial crisis and "a new financial order" should be established.
He stressed the summit should focus on not only financial matters, but also issues concerning global sustainable development, including climate change, energy prices and poverty reduction.
Apart from the financial dimension of this U.S.-originated crisis, there were major imbalances in the world economy that needed to be addressed by world leaders, Barroso told reporters.
He added emerging economies including China and India should attend the global financial summit for their stronger role in stabilizing world economy.
The former Portuguese prime minister said the financial crisis had brought some effects to the real economy of Europe and other regions at levels such as investment and confidence.
The emergency measures taken in recent weeks in Europe to re-capitalize banks and stabilize the financial system were successful, he said, adding more initiatives should be made to address deep imbalances in the world economy.
The ASEM meeting on Friday and Saturday, which brings together leaders of more than 40 Asian and European countries, is set to discuss the financial crisis.
During his visit to Beijing, Barroso will meet Chinese President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabao.
"We will discuss the financial crisis and the solution to it, while trying to address some issues we have discussed for a long time," said Barroso.
