Two Northern Territory
fishermen got a rather spiky surprise when they came across an echidna
swimming two kilometres out from the shore.
Munro Hardy, 24, and Lachie Carter, 26, were fishing for mud crabs near
East Arm Whard in Darwin Harbour when they spotted the animal paddling
towards their boat.
They recorded video of the struggling echidna, who looks to be exhausted as he paddles through the water.
The pair managed to catch it and pulled it to the safety of their boat.
"It was 2km from land in any direction," Mr Hardy told the NT News.
It is not yet known just how the echidna came to be so far from land.
