New Mining Equipment - the 1970's

as part of the Lend Lease Agreement between the USA and the United Kingdom modern mining equipment began to arrive from both the United States and Canada enabling the hard pressed miners to advance more headings and roadways and increase their overall productivity. Dramatic footage of men and the machines at the coal face many thousands of feet below the Welsh countryside. These men worked hard to earn their pay and provide for their families. Considering the material they were digging up was in such high demand the renumeration they received in return was really disgraceful. After a miner had given his life's work to the owners he was cast out at retirement age without a decent pension. Pensions only got better when the coal-mines were nationalised and became the National Coal Board.
