Litter around the new £4.5 million highfields Centre - St Peters - Leicester UK

This video shows the new £4.5 Million Highfields centre here in St Peters, Highfields. It is the flagship centre piece development in our neighbourhood for generations and yet when they built the centre 2 years ago no one actually thought to put extra litter bins around the perimeter of the building which draws people from across Leicester to use its facilities. Facilities most of which we understand are sitting idle due to lack of funding. This striking oversight really does make clear that no one at any level in Leicester City Council considers litter or makes adequate provision for it. They don't even seem to be aware that we are drowning in it!
(We are currently not able to see any discernable contribution the Highfields Centre is making to the people of this community and neighbourhood and even though we have repeatedly pressed the Highfields Centre management to be more forthcoming with comprehensive information about its facilities.) See http://www.stpetersnm.com/hc
This litter and filth around the perimeter of the centre has become a regular feature that stpetersnm.com is naturally going to challenge with a view to bringing about drastic improvement in 2008. It is not acceptable that the Highfields Centre continually draw people into the area and leave them thinking Highfields and St Peters is an area that is run down and up to its ankles in litter, filth and grime. The filth from spitting from youths congregating around the steps to the original building is also an issue in need of addressing. (Brent Council has banned spitting) Can we not do the same? LCC & Highfields Centre... Clean up your act!

  • I could make any stadium look like that by slashing one rubbish bag and filming it! I expected an entire stadium and it`s approaches covered by refuse, yet I see a couple of cans and some newspaper, shame on you Highfield! Generations to come will laugh because the current inhabitants didn`t have the common-sense to request rubbish bins! 4.5 million quid and 0.0001 iq points, congrats Highfields, may your youth be your saviour!

I remember bomb proof bins being heralded in the early eighties syd and I'm sure they've been much improved since then.

I think we can safely put this down to allowing inadequates in on the planning. The communities (read differing ethnic components) give little thought More..

  • Typical of anything Big Gov't touches.

This looks nice compared to our "public housing projects" and "community centers".

Just give it time...the "community" will have it looking like Africa in due time.
