Islamist fighters have fled the Somali capital Mogadishu, leading to a power vacuum and widespread looting. Somali government forces backed by Ethiopian troops have started entering the city. Soldiers loyal to the Somali Islamic Courts Council who captured Mogadishu in June are reported to have fled to the country's south.
