So why wasn't that homeless man given some community service, like litter picking, or assisting in some community project, then being provided with a room and a meal to help him get back into society, instead of a fine of $400.00 which he clearly hasn't got. The magistrate is a baffoon to pass such a sentence. I'm sure if he had that sort of cash to spare he wouldn't be homeless in the first place.

There is no doubt that the courts are a revenue collection centre for the State of of Queensland.
Its a well known fact police have to keep up their arrest quotas or they get get chewed out by their superiors for 'not doing their jobs properly'.
When someone has evidence to support a defence case and stands their ground and fights it all the way, the flaws in the police force really do show.
Another sad reality is that often real criminals get off serious charges because of their ineptness to More..

When did Janet Reno move to Australia?...(she pops up at :35 secs) Or is that my daughter's softball coach?
Anyhoo, I saw this vid last week and it is clearly wrong on several levels. It seems to me that the only way to "watch the watchers" is to require video archiving of all interactions between the citzenry and law enforcement. Dash cams are popular and effective, but police personnel should WEAR cams and ALL of their on-duty activities should be recorded...I know some of you (espe More..

Correct! Perhaps they should have taken into consideration that he does not have any money, therefore choose a more equivalent charge, such as 40 hours of community service. Then again, I believe he shouldn't have been charged at all.

In most australian states a financial penalty can be transformed into community service by a simple visit to a justice of the peace. I assume this applies in Qld aswell.

This kind of thing happens all too frequently. In many large cities this would not even make the news. It is only the existence of the CCTV cameras that allow this behavior to be brought to the light of day. Big Brother polices big brother? Not for long in a truly corrupt world. Fortunately what we see in this is that there are some officials equally outraged and disgusted by the 'brown shirt' tactics used to harass innocents and intimidate citizens.
